If you're Footscray through and through then Saturdays were spent spent huddling around a muddy, windswept Western Oval. Maybe you jumped off early to nab a bag of hot jam doughnuts from Nick at the Footscray Station doughnut van. The Western Oval became a symbol of western suburbs pride and determination, especially when it hosted thousands who backed the Footscray Forever fight. Names change, and multicultural Footscray keeps evolving. But you can never take the bark out of Barkly Street.
